- Be sure to leave your necessities within your reach until the very last minute.
- Take the opportunity to declutter. Donate items you no longer use to a local charity!
- Update your address everywhere: phone provider, bank, financial institutions, school, accountant, notary, lawyer, dentist, home & auto insurance, internet, electricity, gas, SAAQ, RAMQ, provincial and federal governments, alarm system, newspaper subscriptions, family and friends.
- Label each box with its destination room to make unloading and organizing easier at your new home.
- Clearly mark all boxes containing fragile items.
- Group small hard-to-pack items together, such as vacuums, brooms, ironing boards, and curtains.
- Empty all dresser and furniture drawers to prevent damage or shifting during transport.
- Shred or empty all paper filing cabinets beforehand.
- Unplug and remove all audio-video equipment from furniture units.

- Cleaning supplies, brooms, mops, and garbage bags can also come in very handy.
- Empty the fridge and freezer on moving day and remember to pack a cooler for perishables.
- For condos and apartments, have your elevator key ready and confirm your reservation time with building management.
- To speed up loading and unloading, reserve a parking spot for the moving truck near the main entrance.
